Okay. Okay. I know the idea of my blog "Quick Dinner" was to blog about dinners I created quickly. This is a bit of a cheat but I couldn't resist. We lived in Cincinnati a lifetime ago. Our favorite Cincinnati food is Skyline Chili. Recently, I was in Cincy and had to have a meal at Skyline. The top dish is what is known as a three-way--spaghetti, chili, cheese. A four-way and five-way will include kidney beans and/or onions. Always served with Skyline is a bowl of oyster crackers. A Skyline meal is not complete without cheese coneys--a mini hot dog in a bun topped with chili, cheese, mustard and onion!
Here is our house on Royalgreen Drive, Anderson, Ohio. When we lived in this house, the color of the wood stain was much darker and richer. The front door was solid and more compatible with the contemporary styling. Additionally, there were no awnings on the house in the original plans. The landscaping along the front of the house has changed. Originally, there were barberry bushes and creeping juniper along the front walk. The weeping cherry tree was small and perfectly formed. It seems the weeping cherry tree is still present but has had some unfortunate pruning. Also, the two evergreen trees at the end of the house by the master bedroom window were only ten to twelve feet high. They obviously have grown significantly.
This house was designed by a Cincinnati architect named Sauter. When we sold this house in 1990, his widow came by to see one of the houses her husband had designed.
I lived in two beautiful homes/apartments in East Walnut Hills (Cincinnati) when I was single. These homes are actually across the street from each other on Cleinview. The dark grey house was a single family home which had been divided into three separate apartments. I lived on the second floor with two other women (Joan F., a teacher and Monica P., who worked for the city government). Eventually, one of them got married, and we decided to seek other living arrangements at that time.
The landlords of the grey house--a husband and wife (two characters in their late 70s) owned the old victorian across the street as well. They were asking $225/month for the attic apartment which was a two bedroom with kitchen, living room and bath. I thought it was a little more than I wanted to pay (my portion of the rent at the dark grey house was $125/month. They graciously lowered the rent to $175 and I accepted!
Top photos are current. The bottom photos are from 1983.
We were in Cincinnati over the weekend. These photos are of our first house we owned. The owners have changed it over the years. The large trees in the front of the house have been removed. The side entry is now gone in pursuit of more square footage.
I will post the now photos as soon as I unpack my camera.
